The holiday season is a time filled with happiness and joy. However, it can be tough for many people, having to do shopping, traveling, or planning holiday parties/dinners for families and friends. This time can be particularly stressful and overwhelming for caregivers. To make the holidays a bit easier and less stressful, here are some tips:

–          Note the effect of the environment and activities on your loved ones

–          Give a heads-up to family or friends coming to visit about the condition of your care receiver

–          Involve the care receiver in holiday tasks, such as decorations or baking

–          Reminisce about past holidays or fun traditions

–          Don’t place too many expectations on yourself and be open to creating new traditions

–          Have the celebration in the home of the care receiver

–          Suggest a pot luck, so that not all the work has to be done by yourself

–          Don’t hesitate to ask for help and accept help

–          Celebrate and maintain contact with friends and family

–          Last but not least, take some time for yourself and reward yourself; Take breaks
