Is it Time for the Talk?

You may be heading home for the holidays. How are Mom/Dad, Grandma/Grandpa doing? Assess their independence. It may be the time to consider adding some additional help. These simple tools may be useful to you as you begin the conversation.

Be Honest
Expressing your inability to care for your elderly parent in the way they need, can be difficult. However, they are still your parent and will appreciate your honesty and will understand where you are coming from. Sitting them down to have this conversation will be much more effective than a passive aggressive attitude that makes them feel like a burden.

Be Prepared
Before you sit down to discuss this with them, have something planned. Mention that New Outlook Homecare provides professional and compassionate service that treats them with love and respect. This introduction will help them already imagine the option other than you.

Be Willing
Reassure your parent that you will visit and continue to help out in every way you are able. Remind them that they will not be alone even though there are major changes.
