On Sunday, September 25, 2016, New Outlook Homecare participated in Greater Boston’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Our team of nearly twenty participants joined close to 5,000 people walking either 1.5 or 3.5 miles toward a common goal – to raise awareness and funds for research to end Alzheimer’s disease.  According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s and last year, 15.9 million caregivers provided care for someone with the disease. It is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States and one in three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

September 25th was a brisk, beautiful, sunny day. With our lime green t-shirts, Team New Outlook Homecare was all smiles as the walk began. Listening to speeches by radio personalities, celebrities and Mayor Marty Walsh, the Walk officially began just after 10:00 a.m. “Let’s go. This is so fun,” said five-year old Seth as we headed under the purple archway.

It was so nice to see supporters holding various colored flowers. Blue represented someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Purple was for someone who has lost a loved one to the disease. Yellow represented someone who is currently supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s and Orange was for everyone who supports the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer’s. The organization provided nourishment, water and support the entire route.

New Outlook Homecare was proud to participate in such a meaningful way and we thank all of those that participated in the Walk. Donations are still being collected. If you’d like more information or wish to donate, please visit our team’s page or visit the Alzheimer’s Association website: http://www.alz.org. We hope you can join us next year.
